Waktu pelayan ditetapkan kepada GMT+3 semasa Waktu Penjimatan Siang AS dan GMT+2 semasa Waktu Piawai AS.
What are commodities, and how can I trade them?
Commodities are raw materials or primary products commonly traded in financial markets. Examples include precious metals, energy resources and agricultural products.
At ADFX, you can trade commodities as Contracts for Difference (CFDs). We offer trading in the following spot commodities:
- Precious Metals: Spot Gold, Spot Silver, Spot Palladium, Spot Platinum
- Energy: Spot Crude Oil, Spot Natural Gas
Trading commodity CFDs allows you to take advantage of market opportunities without the logistical complexities of physical assets.
What is the difference between spot and futures commodities?
In CFD trading, spot commodities typically refer to the immediate trading price, closely reflecting real-time market values for commodities with active OTC markets—such as gold (XAU) and silver (XAG).
However, for commodities without a centralized spot market (like WTI crude oil and natural gas), CFD providers generally offer a synthetic “spot” price derived algorithmically from futures contracts. This means prices may differ slightly between liquidity providers, as each uses unique methods and weighting strategies to derive their indicative price.
In contrast, futures commodities have a clearly defined expiry and delivery date, with prices explicitly reflecting market expectations for future supply, demand, storage costs, and interest rates.
What affects commodity prices?
Commodity prices are influenced by a wide range of factors, including:
- Supply and demand dynamics
- Geopolitical events
- Weather and natural disasters (especially for energy and agricultural products)
- Inventory reports and production data
- Currency movements, especially the US Dollar
Are there overnight fees for holding commodity positions?
Same with trading Forex CFDs, holding a commodity CFD position overnight incurs a financing cost. This reflects the cost of maintaining leveraged positions beyond the daily trading session and is either charged or credited depending on the position and the underlying instrument.
In addition to daily swaps, a triple swap is applied on specific days to account for the weekend rollover period, when markets are closed but financing costs still apply:
- For precious metals like gold (XAU) and silver (XAG), triple swaps are charged on Wednesday. These instruments typically follow a T+2 settlement cycle, so positions held overnight on Wednesday are valued for Monday, covering the weekend period.
- For other commodities, such as spot oil and natural gas, the triple swap is applied on Friday. These instruments are derived from futures pricing structures, and Friday positions carry the cost of holding through to Monday’s open.
On our platform, swaps apply to positions held past 23:59 server time, which operates on GMT+3 during Daylight Saving Time and GMT+2 during Standard Time.
