Market Recap

XAUUSD
XAUUSD closed at 4077.81, up 67.1 points or 1.67% from the 4010.71 open, after traversing an intraday range of 87.58 (2.18% of the open). The session set its low early at 3999.72 at 01:55, briefly testing the 4000 figure, and then advanced steadily to a high of 4087.30 at 21:27 before settling near the top of the range. Price action crossed a 10-handle threshold during the move and finished below the 4100 round level but within sight of it. The close near the session high left only a modest gap to the peak, while the low was established within the first hour, framing a day characterized by early weakness followed by persistent upside into the evening. From a multi-day perspective, the instrument registered fresh 5-day and 10-day highs intraday. On the H4 timeframe, RSI(14) was elevated at 78.65 by the close, while the D1 RSI(14) printed 50.14, placing the daily momentum reading near its midpoint even as the shorter horizon showed stronger impulse. No daily ATR reference was provided for comparison. Overall, the session featured a clean progression from an early probe of 4000 to late-session highs around 4087, with the final print anchored in the upper end of the day’s distribution and a net gain that outpaced the session’s percentage range relative to the open.

DJ30
DJ30 added 308.53 points, or 0.594%, to finish the session at 52,243.53 after a day that ranged 558.07 points, equivalent to 1.07% of the opening level. The market opened at 51,935.0 and set the session low at 51,864.41 at 03:16, then advanced through the day to register the high at 52,422.48 at 19:55, before settling nearer the top of the range. Price traded on both sides of the 52,000 mark, spending the early phase below it and later holding above it into the close. The close sat in the upper half of the day’s distribution, indicating the final print remained closer to the high than the low. On the intraday backdrop, the finish was above the H1 EMA21 at 52,161.88, whereas the open began below that measure. Higher-timeframe signals were mixed: the daily MACD read 200.04, while the H4 MACD signal stood at -111.08, and the D1 RSI14 was 38.67. The sequence of price action featured an early downside probe shortly after the 01:00 start, followed by a steady ascent that culminated in a late-session peak at 19:55, with no new lows after the 03:16 trough. By the close, DJ30 had recovered from the early dip, maintained trade above the 52,000 round level, and ended the day with a net gain and an upper-range settlement within a moderate intraday span relative to the open.

GBPUSD
GBPUSD tracked a wide session and finished lower on 21 July, settling at 1.34 for a net decline of about 0.006, or -0.42%. The pair opened at 1.34, pushed up to the day’s high near 1.35 at 10:08, then slid to the low around 1.34 at 16:39 before closing just above that trough. The intraday span measured roughly 0.01, equivalent to 0.71% of the open, placing the close near the lower end of the day’s range. Price action unfolded within the 1.34–1.35 band, with the high set in the morning and the low printed late in the session. The day also registered a fresh 5‑day low, while the recent 5‑day high remains around 1.35. From a higher‑timeframe perspective, the 20‑day simple moving average on the daily chart sat near 1.34, and the 20‑period simple moving average on the hourly chart was also close to 1.34; spot ended marginally above the daily average but below the hourly measure. Intraday, the early lift toward 1.35 did not persist, and by the close the pair was holding closer to the session low than the high. The overall structure leaves the session defined by a morning high at 10:08, a late‑afternoon low at 16:39, and a close in the lower segment of the day’s range, while the presence of the new 5‑day low and the proximity of price to the daily moving average framed the backdrop into the end of trade.

Economic Calendar Recap & Preview

A firmer inflation pulse in New Zealand set the tone on an otherwise light tape: CPI rose 1.5 percent quarter over quarter, up from 0.9 previously and above the 0.6 forecast, lifting the year over year rate to 4.1 percent versus 3.1 prior and 3.9 expected; in the UK, the unemployment rate held at 4.9 percent, matching the prior reading but above the 4.6 percent consensus. Over the next 24 hours, the calendar centers on U.S. EIA crude oil inventories at 17:30 server time, with inventories expected to rise by 1.98 after a 1.69 decline previously. A larger-than-expected build typically weighs on crude prices. The release can spark brief volatility in energy markets and commodity-linked currencies around the headline.
